Sun Care and Your Newly Microbladed Brows

Sun care

Ladies! If you’ve ever had a tattoo, you probably remember being given very specific instructions when it came to sun care. Right?

Well, same goes for newly microbladed eyebrows.

The sun (while LOVELY), presents a few issues with freshly microbladed brows:

Exposure to Sunlight May Cause Premature Fading

As with a tattoo or any small, open wound, we recommend not exposing your brows to sunlight for about two weeks after your appointment. We realize this can be difficult to achieve in the spring and summer, but some ideas are:

  • Hang out in the shade
  • Wear large sunglasses
  • Simply stay indoors

You’ll get the best result by staying out of the sunlight, and you’ll thank yourself after for being so diligent.

Sunscreen is Not an Approved Moisturizer

After your brows are microbladed, we provide you with an approved moisturizer to use on them throughout the healing process. Please so not swap this for sunscreen and think you can go hang out at the beach!

Your brows need a specific, healing product. Not Coppertone. M’kay? 😉

Swelling May Get Worse in the Sun

Your brows will be slightly swollen for 24-48 hours after the initial microblading procedure. If you are exposing your brows to the sunlight, this swelling could worsen.

A Sunburn on Fresh Brows would SUCK

Burning a fresh wound (which is essentially what microblading is) would be painful and definitely hinder both the healing process and the final result. Be careful and mindful and patient with your brows during the first two weeks after your procedure!

So. If you’re planning on having your brows microbladed this spring or summer, that’s GREAT! But we highly encourage you to follow proper sun care. If you have questions, please ask us! We’d be happy to offer clarification and give you our very best tips on how to heal well in the warmer (sunnier!) weather.

What You Should Know about Microblading Your Brows

microblading

The term “microblading” has been around for a few years now, but many people still don’t know what it’s all about. Celebrities have certainly caught on, though: Madonna has had her eyebrows microbladed, and Bella Thorne even Snapchatted her entire procedure.

But what exactly happens when you get microbladed? Is it different from getting old-school eyebrow tattoos? And how much does it cost?

Keep reading to get the skinny on the treatment that’ll make your brows, er, not so skinny:

It’s Technically a Type of Tattoo

So what’s the difference between an eyebrow tattoo and microblading? An eyebrow tattoo is a permanent procedure, which uses a machine to penetrate pigment deep into the skin. Microblading involves using a hand tool with nine or more tiny needles to create shallower cuts on the skin and then letting pigment seep in.

At Browtique, we combine both techniques to create an amazing result that you’ll love.

The combination of microblading and shading (tattooing) gives the artist complete control over the look any specific client is going for. Ultimately, the end result is crisp, hairlike strokes.

While people going through health issues (like thyroid or cancer treatment) that lend to thin, sparse or no brows are very common microblading candidates, people with very beautiful, envy-worthy brows come in to see us. Those clients typically just want to correct some asymmetry, or perfect the look they already have.

Bottom line? Microblading is for everyone.

Expect Your Appointment Time to Vary

A typical appointment is around two hours. We take a lot of measurements, and draw the outline. It’s very much a conversation because we want every client to be completely comfortable before we move to the next step.

Measuring and perfecting the look can take about 30 minutes. After that, it takes about 60-90 minutes for the actual procedure.

Don’t Drink Your Face Off the Night Before

If you’re drinking alcohol in excess before coming in or the night before, it’ll cause you to bleed more,  which can negatively impact your results. If you’re bleeding a lot, the pigment won’t be able to penetrate into the skin.

So stick to water the day before your procedure, please!

Plan to Stay Out of the Sun and Water for a Week

It Hurts More for Some People than for Others

There is some discomfort to the procedure, and everyone’s pain level is slightly different. We use a long-lasting, fast-acting numbing cream while we’re doing the microblading. It’s good to anticipate some pain, but it won’t be as bad as you fear.

It’ll Cost You $400, But It’s Worth It

If you’re tired of filling in your brows every day, but you want the freedom to be able to change your look every few years, this procedure might be the perfect investment. And there’s an added bonus: after getting your eyebrows microbladed, you may find yourself putting all your makeup brushes down.

Clients with fierce microbladed eyebrows often don’t feel the need to wear much additional makeup at all, because when your brows are groomed and perfected, you just have a fresh, polished look!

What You May Not Know About Brows & Lashes

Friends! We’ve been blogging a lot lately about microblading and lash lifts and tints, but what about your actual brows and lashes? Want to know some cool stuff about them?

Yeah, we thought that sounded cool, too. Here you go:

Lashes, Lashes, Lashes

These Bad Boys Protect Your Eyes

Those tiny hairs on our eyelids keep dirt, sweat, water, and other unwanted debris out of the way. Having one of them fall into your eye periodically is a small price to pay for the usual protection they offer!

They Bail on the Daily

Actually, one to five lashes will drop out each and every day. A lash’s growth cycle is only three months, which is much shorter than the hair on your head.

This is why they don’t grow very long!

Lashes Grow in 3 Phases

There’s the anagen phase (active growth period), the catagen phase (transitional period), and the telogen phase (resting period).

At any given time, 90% of your lashes are in the active growth stage where they grow about .16 millimeters a day. So, if you cut your lashes they will grow back—but it will take about five months.

Your Upper and Lower Lashes are Not the Same

The hairs on your top lid are much fuller than the ones on your lower lashline. In fact, they’re almost twice as full, with between 200 and 300 lashes.

Your lower lid has about half that amount.

They’re Different Lengths

The middle lashes are generally much longer than the sides, which is nice, because if the side lashes were longer, they would pull your lids down and create a totally different look.

The Longest Eyelash on Record? Almost 3 Inches.

To be exact, it was 6.99 centimeters. And—this shouldn’t be a shocker—a guy holds this record. (Of course, right?!)

In comparison, the average lash length is about 10 millimeters.

We’ve Been Obsessed with Them for about 6000 Years

Early lash tools have been found in Ancient Egypt, but the modern mascara as we know it was created in 1913 in France by Rimmel. However, mascara didn’t become popular in America until Maybelline debuted their first formula, which was a mixture of coal and Vaseline.

Yes, really.

Brows, Brows, Brows

They Protect our Eyes, Too

Throughout human history, much of our body hair has disappeared, except for one notable feature — our brows.

And there’s a good reason.

Like our lashes, our brows wick away sweat and dirt so they don’t cloud our vision. They also deflect rain, and force drops to run down the side of our face instead of straight into our eyes.

Yay, eyebrows!

They’re Important for Facial Recognition

Researchers at MIT found that faces without eyebrows are like land without landmarks: it’s almost impossible to recognize them.

In their study, participants were asked to identify photos of celebrities with one catch: their eyebrows were removed. Interestingly, participants only recognized about 46% of the faces. (And they even had trouble with really famous ones.)

They Play a Huge Role in Nonverbal Communication

Along with the lips, brows are the most expressive part of our faces.

Think about it: you can tell exactly how someone is feeling based on their facial movements. If they have furrowed brows, then they’re probably angry. If one is raised, it could mean they are feeling inquisitive or confused. If they’re feeling shocked, both might be raised.

This is why people who get Botox injections might be a little confusing to read!

The Average Person Has about 250 Hairs Per Brow

They vary in length, thickness, and direction.

You might have noticed that the hair closest to our noses point upward while they start to point outward once they reach the arch. That’s by design!

They Fall Out (like all the time)

Brow hairs have a lifespan of about four months, meaning that the eyebrows you were last summer aren’t the ones you have on your face now. Weird, right?

(For comparison purposes, the hairs on your head have a much longer cycle of three to seven years.)

The Shape of Your Brows May Predict Your Personality

According to Amazing Face Reading by Marc Fuller, if you have straight eyebrows you might be more fact-oriented and direct. If they are slightly curved, you’re likely to be more people-oriented.

We don’t know about this, though…hmmm…

They Go Gray. Ugh.

Boooo…

But thankfully, it takes years after your head goes gray for them to follow suit. (Yay!)

If the above info makes you interested in getting fuller, darker brows or darker, longer lashes, contact us! We can help create amazing lashes and brows that you can boast for a long time.

On Microblading…

microblading

You know the makeup slogan “Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline?”

Apply that to eyebrows.

Eyebrows frame the face, and although we all try to colour them in and thread them and brush them and generally make them look perfect (and hopefully natural), let’s face it: it takes a lot of work, right?

We’re usually not born with perfect, fabulous eyebrows. But Browtique can help with that!

This is where microblading comes in. Microblading is semi-permanent makeup for your brows, so you don’t have to spend twenty minutes each and every morning trying to make them look perfect. You get them done once a year, and you have perfect brows that don’t require additional make-up.

How does this work? Well, we basically take a very sharp instrument and create lines that look like hairs, in a shade that compliments your natural hair colour. This process takes anywhere from 2-3 hours, and takes about 7-10 days to heal and look perfect. It’s a quick fix for rocking awesome brows for 365 days at a time.

Seriously.

We know you have more questions, so here’s a little Q&A to cover what we haven’t touched on yet:

What products are used?

The pigments used in cosmetic tattooing come in a variety of colours specially formulated with iron oxide as the ingredients safe for skin. We do not use pigments made from organic ingredients, as they have a high-risk of carrying bacteria and causing allergic reactions.

How much does it cost?

Microblading costs $399 for the initial appointment, and another $99 for the 6-week touch-up. Drop by for a consultation to receive an exact, personalized quote.

Does it hurt?

Browtique uses a highly effective, topical anesthetic cream for numbing before and during your procedure, to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person, and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable.

More FAQs can be found on our website HERE.

Browtique has been Abbotsford’s premier microblading studio for close to two years, and in that time, we’ve gifted hundreds of women with gorgeous brows. (We provide lash lifts and tints, too! See HERE.)

Contact us to book your consultation today, and if you’re still not sure about this complete process, see what others have to say via Facebook Reviews.

So don’t worry if you weren’t born with brows to die for; we can make you look like you were.

3 Ways Your Brows are Aging You

middle aged eyebrows

Sigh. Hair growth. Age issues. Waah. As if we didn’t get pummelled enough by skincare commercials and Botox advertisements. Do we really have to worry about our eyebrows?

Kinda.

Your eyebrows will often begin to reflect the aging process before you even realize it. Here are 3 ways in which this happens:

Sparse Brows

The Problem: Like thinning hair, sparse eyebrows come with age, so they make you look older than you are.

The Solution: Use the combination of microblading and tattooing (we call it powder brows) to fill in patchy spots and make your arches look thicker.

Disappearing Tails

The Problem: Brows naturally thin at the outer edges (by your temples) first, but a fast fade can also be the result of over-plucking. The tail of the brow is the part that sets off the arch, which makes eyes look youthful and sexy.

Unfortunately, without it, eyes seem droopy and tired.

The Solution: Lengthen your brow tails by having them microbladed.

Graying Brows

The Problem: From afar, gray or white eyebrows disappear completely, which makes your features look unbalanced. In addition to this, the lighter colour screams aging. *sigh

The Solution: Camouflage colorless hairs using the right technique, which depends on the number of grays you have. Either microblading or powder brows (eyebrow tattooing) can help add colour back into your brows, and make them appear thicker, fuller, and more youthful.

If you feel like you’re currently experiencing any of the above problems with your brows, give Browtique a call or email and book your consultation or appointment today! Not sure microblading will be right for you?

You can have a look at hundreds of before-and-after photos on our Instagram wall. Buying beautiful, youthful brows was never easier! xo

5 Reasons to Microblade Your Eyebrows

eyebrows

Ladies! If you think microblading your eyebrows might be a cool idea, then we encourage you to ask us about it! There are many reasons why you may want this cosmetic procedure done, and we’ve listed a few of them below:

Hair is Sparse

If your eyebrow hair is thin or sparsely located, then microblading can help you achieve a fuller look to your brows. We create hair-like lines that run through the sparse areas, ultimately achieving a fuller, fresher look.

Hair is Light

This is a common problem—your eyebrow hair is much lighter than you’d prefer it to be. Maybe it doesn’t match the hair on your head, or maybe it’s simply too blonde to frame your eyes properly.

Whatever the case, we can help. With microblading, colour is transferred to your brows, which means you can make them as dark as you want.

You’ve Overplucked

If you were born between the sixties and the eighties, chances are, your brows are pretty thin from overplucking.

That’s okay!

We can create a thicker brow that you will adore—and remember: it lasts a full year or longer!

You Hate Makeup

Honestly? Who doesn’t?! By having your eyebrows microbladed, you get to forgo eyebrow pencils or shadows or whatever you happen to be using that creates the brow of your dreams.

Stop it. Let Browtique help.

You Want a New Shape

This is also pretty common. If you have a deep arch, or no arch at all, perhaps you’d like to try a shape that’s a little different. We can’t completely change the natural curve of your eyebrows, but we can strengthen the shape and work on changing it, slightly.

Whatever your reason may be, give us a call to set up a consultation! You won’t regret it. If you don’t believe us, check out our reviews on Facebook!

New year, new YOU. Right?! xo

Lashes and Brows For Christmas, Please!

brows for Christmas

Ladies. It’s Christmas time, which means it’s party season. We get dressed up, we get our hair done, we wear heels and red lipstick and get manicures and pedicures.

Why?

Because we want to look our best! Right?! So, in the spirit of wanting to look and feel our best, why not make an appointment to get your brows microbladed?

Here’s the deal: eyebrow microblading is not only the perfect way to get noticed in December; it lasts for an entire year. So even if you wait to book an appointment until January, your brows will still totally be on point for next Christmas.

So what exactly is microblading?

Great question.

Microblading is creating precise hair-like incisions created along your brow line with a very sharp, special tool. (It’s sounds like it should be painful, but it’s not. We use a fabulous numbing cream!) Then, we use a tattoo machine to shade over your brows to create a very natural, soft, full look that requires no upkeep and zero makeup, afterwards.

How nice would it be to skip the makeup application on your brows?! And guess what else? We have a kick-ass holiday deal for you:

Book your microblading appointment for January, and receive a FREE lash lift and tint.

That’s an $80 value, girls!

So what are you waiting for?

  • no brow makeup and prefect brows for a year
  • skip the mascara and get gorgeous lashes for 5-8 weeks

Email Laurie at eyebrowtique@gmail.com to book today. ALSO: if you need to purchase a Browtique gift certificate (or want to receive one), we can hook you (or someone you love!) up with one of those, too.

Happy holidays, friends. Stay beautiful. xo

Love Your Lashes for the Holidays!

dyeing eyelashes

Ladies. You know we’re all about the brows, right? Well, guess what? Now we’re all about the lashes, too.

Browtique is now offering lash tints and lifts!

Basically, instead of using mascara (gross) or getting lash extensions (time consuming), you can now choose to have your natural lashes tinted black, and then “permanently” curled so that they look longer and fuller.

Now, the reason why the word “permanently” is in quotations, is because lashes fall out. Everyone had a natural lash cycle that lasts 6-8 weeks. This means that after your tint and lift, your lashes will appear dark and full. But as your lashes naturally fall out and replace one another, this appearance eventually goes away.

The good news? Tint and lifts usually look great for about 4-6 weeks!

Bottom line? You can spend $80 and have your lashes look fab throughout the holidays. Seriously. Book today and you’ll thank us when we see you again in January.

AND: if you schedule both a microblading appointment AND a lash tint and lift before November 30th, you’ll receive $50 off your tint and lift!

You want to look super hot for the holidays with ZERO extra work? You got it! Email us at eyebrowtique@gmail.com to book.
